Eno & The Winkies "Peel Sessions"

Recorded on February 26, 1974 for the BBC at the studio Langham 1 by John Peel.

After Roxy Music, Brian Eno began his solo career and subsequently went on tour. The tour ended after only 5 shows due to Eno having a collapsed lung. Luckily for us, these few tracks were captured. Includes an excellent version of "Baby's On Fire" which Brian later re-recorded. From producing bands like No New York (Compilation), DeVo, Talking Heads, U2 among many others, his always forward thinking approach to production, writing, vision and music has always made him a visionary and a pioneer in music, art, fashion (?!>??") sound noise. Words cannot give justice to this man's decades of years of work.

Magazine "Pre Real Life DEMO"

Howard Devoto and the boys were one of post punks most brilliant bands. Mere words cannot describe the shear brilliance and soul power that emanates from every groove off every track. Particularly off their first 3 albums. I could literally go on for pages about how great this band is. We all know that Howard Devito was the original singer for the Buzzcocks, but would truly become the legend in Magazine that he so rightly is. With badass Barry A. on bass guitar, there was some serious rhythms and some serious songs being written here. Even dare I say musicianship. With songs like "The Light Pours Out Of Me" even being covered by Ministry, among other numerous bands. Magazine have paid their dues to society, now it's time for us to pay our dues to the man. Off with their heads! These recordings are the demos for the first album "Real Life" and are totally unreleased.
Mandatory Listen: "Real Life LP" / "Secondhand Daylight" / "The Correct Use Of Soap" Go out and get this now!

Peter Laughner
"Take The Guitar Player For A Ride"
(*Link Fixed*)

Legendary guitar player Peter Laughner played in such bands as Rocket From The Tombs, Friction, Pere Ubu, Mr. Charlie, Cinderella Backstreet, Peter & The Wolves and The Blue Drivers, he also helped to inspire the sounds and songs of the Dead Boys. After Rocket From The Tombs called it quits, he and David Thomas formed the ground breaking Pere Ubu and created some of Cleveland's most primitive sounds that the 70's ever heard, some of which can be sampled here in their rawest form. Songs like "Amphetamine" and the ever fucking classic "Life Stinks" show Laughner recording these demos in some crazed altered state. Also included here is a demo recording of "Ain't It Fun" which was made famous by the Dead Boys, as well as "Baby's On Fire". This even has a home tape recorded in his bedroom the night before his death. All 15 tracks are absolutely essential despite not being recorded in the best of studios, not that it really fucking matters cause it's the energy and passion that counts, and that's all this guy was about. Long live the BB King of erratic punk rock blues guitar.

THE STALIN "Fish Inn"

Japan's The Stalin combined kabuki like voodoo mysticism with the dark side of the sexual underbelly of the high tension streets of Tokyo, and mashed it with the underground and the hard hitting crash of punk rock to become one of Japan's premier iconic leaders. Although "Fish Inn" probably isn't the most punk rock album of the bunch it is an obscure one and a great record nonetheless. I hope you will enjoy the sounds of the mystics. Stay tuned for more Stalin albums to be posted soon. KABUKI.

Dayglo Abortions "Holy Shiite!!"

Formed in 1979 in Victoria, British columbia, Dayglo Abortions released their first album in 1981. Their lyrics are informed by a total disregard for the status quo and society in general. Police launched a criminal investigation on the Dayglo Abortions after one of their baby sluts brought home a copy of their album "Here Today, Guano Tomorrow". This resulted in a lawsuit and the Dayglo's being featured in the following trial; the covers and lyrics were showcased by the prosecution. "Here Today, Guano Tomorrow" had the album cover in all its glory with the picture of a hamster eating from a box of chocolates on satin sheets with a glass of wine. A gun points at the hamster, and the back cover shows the resulting carnage. "Feed Us A Fetus" was also featured, which had a picture of a baked fetus on the table in front of Ronald and Nancy Reagan. All this resulted in the espionage and criminal prosecution of Fringe Product, their label at the time, for distribution and possession with intent to distribute obscene material—the first such prosecution since the offense entered the criminal code in 1959. Too bad for them the jury returned the verdict of not guilty.
The Dayglo's had their revenge with the lead song off the next album, "Two Dogs Fucking", which is about the sanctimonious nature of Ottawa's public officials that leads directly to the extinction of the human race. Since their onset, the Dayglo's have released quality Canadian punk. On occasion, their albums have included political aspects, as "Holy Shiite" has song titles such as "America Eats Her Young", "Christina Bin Laden", "Scientology", and "Where's Bin Laden?". Give me

Cock Sparrer "True Grit"

Start this one off with Oi Not Profit! Hailing from the streets of East London way back in 1974, Cock Sparrer started out kicking around the pubs making a good little racket, then morphed into a punk rockin' band that fit right in with the working class Oi movement. Along with other great bands like the Cockney Rejects, 4 Skins and countless others, the Oi scene was highly politicized due to skinhead violence and certain involvement in the National Front. Of course, this is a generalization by the mass media and does not mean that any of these bands are affiliated with them. Regardless, most of these bands made great working class DIY punk rock records and Cock Sparrer was definitely one of them. This is their album called "True Grit".

Brutal Assault
"Screaming Venges Demo"

Florida hardcore post #3. Jacksonville's own Brutal Assault.

With some of us here at PNP growing up in the 80's hardcore movement and/or punk rock scene, I was fortunate enough to be bestowed the honor of spending some of my pre-teen and teenage years in Florida, and being lucky enough to catch bands like Minor Threat, the Bad Brains, Black Flag, Butthole Surfers, Meatmen, Hated Youth, Government Issue, Circle Jerks, Gangreen, Dr. Know, Agnostic Front, Nuclear Assault, Death, Roach Motel, The Necros, Exploited, Husker Du, Scream, Fear etc...etc...etc... Some of these bands played in front of about 20 people due to the overwhelming moral majority vote for Jimmy Buffett and the Save The Manatee foundation. As Henry Rollins depicts in one of his books, Florida had one of the most violent hardcore scenes in the world. One that would bring national attention via Court TV. Rollins would eventually stop touring there with the Rollins Band, and the Circle Jerks stopped shows numerous times and in time stopped touring there as well. The same goes for so many other national acts due to the overwhelming violence in Florida. Some venues got shut down and others just went out of business and/or lost their licenses, and of course some went on to become very successful. And we all know what happened to South Beach... And what does this have to do with Brutal Assault you say? Other than they were one of many great bands from the 80's that were creating an essential soundtrack for kids like me, for no good goddamn reason other than to make a bunch of noise and to fucking maybe get on stage one day and get in the fucking pit. Well, they were from Northern Florida and this is one of the demo tapes that I had in my closet amongst hundreds of other demos from back in the day. The only artwork was a xerox of handwritten song titles, and the name of the demo, which were all misspelled. Doesn't get much more punk rock than that.
